He was born on December 25, 1983 in Bhatpara village under Jhenaigati police station in Sherpur district. Mithun Raksam is a Garo poet, author, script writer, editor and cultural activist working on Garo art-literature-culture for a long time. On his own initiative and funding, he organized the first Garo Book Fair at Nangrima Church in Kalachadpur, Dhaka, in 2008. Prior to this, he served as the editor-in-chief of the magazine published during Wangala festival, the main festival of the Garos held in Kalachadpur in 2007, which is still ongoing. Every year Wangala has been fulfilling the duties of chief editor of the magazine with devotion. He worked as a researcher in pre-school programs in Garo language at an indigenous institution called ‘Siprad’ in 2007 and from 2008 to 2014 worked as a senior script writer for the very popular children’s educational serial program – 123 Sisimpur which aired on Bangladesh Television(BTV).
Mithun Raksam published a little magazine called ‘Thokbirim’ in August 2017 with the aim of promoting Garo literature and bringing together Garo writers living in different parts of the country especially in remote areas. The 12th issue has been published at Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2023. The 2024 special issue is awaited. Thokbirim- Garo language word with meaning-alphabet. Thokbirim works on Garo language-art-literature-culture. Poet Mithun Raksam runs a website called ‘Thokbirim.com’ to introduce and spread Garo art-literature-culture all over the world.
Mithun Raksam has been organizing a month-long ‘Garo Book Fair’ in the year 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 in the premises of Shishu Malanch School, Kalachadpur with the aim of reaching, promoting and exhibiting the books, magazines, memoirs, memorials published by Garo writers to all levels of readers. Which has received a lot of response from the writers-readers-thinkers and has been highly appreciated.
The main aim and objective of publishing Thokbirim magazine is to work for the improvement and development of Garo language and art-literature. For example- 1. Promotion and promotion of Garo art-literature-culture 2. Strengthening the practice of own language 3. Reader creation 4. Curriculum development 5. Encouraging the young society in art and literature 6. A gathering of readers and writers 8. Exchange of ideas and exchange of art-literature-culture with Garo writers in foreign languages 9. Enrichment of own culture 10. Organizing book fairs in remote areas etc.
Thokbirim, a Little magazine edited by Mithun Raksam, has been publishing important books by Garo writers with its own funding. For example, the autobiography of the Garo freedom fighter Nokanta Sangma, the endangered almost mountainous rivers of Greater Mymensingh, Garo dance, Garo law, Garo language theories, Garo ethnic clothing, ornaments and food habits, Anthropological history of the Garos etc.
Mithun Raksam is a poet and writer. His first book of poetry was published in 2008 titled ‘Mantradhoni’. The latest book of poetry ‘Kheei Morbo’ was published at the 2024 Amar Ekushey Book Fair. The subject of Mithun Raksam’s writings is the history-tradition of his (Garo) nationality, happiness and sorrow, mountains and rivers, about the liberation war, the absence of men and women meeting, the loss of life, the loss of land, the lamentation of the land becoming desolate has emerged in the writings of poet Mithun Raksam , the poem is in the story.
Mithun Raksam’s important book of poetry is ‘Dalile Bhatpara Gram’ published in 2010, which immediately received a response from the readers. Mithun Raksam has published 12 books so far. Among them 8 poetry books, 1 story, 1 research book and 2 edited books.
